The only remaining question now is what happens next for him with an offseason full of contract negotiations looming.?

SEATTLE (AP) — Russell Wilson maintains that his right middle finger is in good working order. Pete Carroll claims that neither the system nor the playcaller are to fault.
So, since his return from injured reserve in mid-November, why hasn’t one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks been performing like himself? It’s the most pressing issue confronting the Seattle Seahawks as they come to the end of a dismal season and prepare for an offseason that might significantly alter their organization.
Wilson’s future in Seattle has been in doubt since his dissatisfaction with the organization surfaced in February, prompting speculation about a potential trade. He pushed his worries to the back of his mind, intending to address them over the winter. With the quarterback (who ranks 19th in QBR), the offense (which ranks 20th in scoring), and the 5-10 Seahawks (who have lost their most games in almost a decade), there’s a high possibility the two teams will find themselves at the same crossroads.
However, any choice the club takes on Wilson must be based on an understanding of why he has been out for the second part of the season. His accuracy has been uneven since returning from injury in Week 10, especially in his first three games back, but also on a few unusual misses after then. Since returning, he has a 37.8 QBR, which is much better and closer to his career average than it was previous to the Week 5 injury, when Wilson was, in his words, “playing some of the finest football of his career.”
Wilson recently admitted that he was “certainly” not 100 percent when he returned after a relatively speedy recovery from surgery on Oct. 8. But he insists that his finger is OK.

“He doesn’t feel wounded,” Carroll stated on 710 ESPN Seattle on Monday. “… But the outcomes are a little bit different, and the accuracy issue, maybe there’s a few plays a game, and I believe there’s a part in there that we don’t have control over like we wish we had.”
Carroll stated in the same radio interview that he doesn’t believe first-year offensive coordinator Shane Waldron’s plan is the issue “at all.” Wilson still likes and trusts the first-year coordinator.
Wilson recently said that he wants to stay in Seattle for the long haul, but with the implicit, critical caveat that it must be in the correct conditions.
There are a slew of unanswered concerns surrounding Wilson’s condition. With the Seahawks out of postseason contention and attention now focused on Russell Wilson’s future, here’s an effort to address some of them, beginning with one of the concerns he raised last summer.
Wilson’s pass protection has been a mixed bag.
So-so.
After ranking ninth last season, the Seahawks are 17th in pass block victory rate (60 percent) (61.9 percent ). The ESPN statistic tracks how often a team’s blocks last at least 2.5 seconds, which distinguishes between pressure caused by incorrect blocking and pressure caused by a quarterback hanging on to the ball.
In terms of PBWR, Seattle’s defeat against the Chicago Bears on Sunday was the team’s third-worst game of the season (45.5 percent ). However, Wilson’s 13-yard sack in the fourth quarter while attempting to lengthen a third-down play, which became costly when Jason Myers missed a 39-yard range goal attempt, was a pass-block victory for Seattle.
The Seahawks traded for high-priced veteran right guard Gabe Jackson in the offseason, making one alteration to last year’s starting line. He’s been consistent, ranking 16th among guards in PBWR while starting every game. They reintroduced Ethan Pocic at center, which was the other position they might have improved.
“I believe those guys have done OK over the season,” Carroll said of the team’s offensive line on 710 ESPN Seattle. “That hasn’t been the season’s issue at all.”
Regardless of how much Wilson’s style adds to his sack totals, “fine” is unlikely to enough to alleviate one of his main worries.
What role does his contract play in all of this?

The Seahawks don’t even have a Jordan Love — a recent high draft selection waiting in the wings — much alone a Young in their back pocket. They have Geno Smith, a talented backup who can serve as a bridge starter at best but isn’t a long-term solution. And, apart from Rodgers, how many other current NFL quarterbacks who may become available this summer wouldn’t be a big downgrade from Wilson?
The Seahawks could potentially receive several first-round picks in a Wilson trade (they don’t have any right now due to the Jamal Adams deal) and utilize that money to choose Wilson’s successor. However, landing a young quarterback in any draft, much alone the forthcoming one, is far from certain.
One of the most difficult assets to find in sports is a franchise quarterback. For the Seahawks to move Wilson this summer, there may not be enough of a road to another one.
So, how about the rest of the company?
Carroll’s future has also been speculated about, despite the fact that he signed a five-year agreement in the autumn of 2020 that keeps him under contract through the 2025 season. Schneider also inked a contract extension following last season that will keep him on the team until the 2027 draft. Contracts like this are usually guaranteed.
The fact that the person signing those contracts, de facto club owner Jody Allen, is such a mystery makes the scenario much more difficult to forecast. Since taking over the Seahawks when her brother, Paul Allen, died in 2018, she hasn’t given a single media interview.
Wilson doesn’t have the same level of contact with Jody Allen as he had with Paul Allen, which means he has no clue what his future holds.
No one can accomplish it.
