The “No. 2 UCLA Thumps Bakersfield 95” is a high school basketball game between the “Bakersfield High School” and the “UCLA Bruins”. The Bruins won by a score of 95-60.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — No. 2 UCLA thrashed Cal State Bakersfield 95-58 in the schools’ season opening on Tuesday night. Johnny Juzang was one of four starters in double digits for the Bruins.
Tyger Campbell scored 10 points, Jaime Jaquez Jr. had 14 points, and Jules Bernard had 19 points.

For the Roadrunners, Justin McCall had 11 points and Shaun Williams had ten.
Cody Riley, UCLA’s fifth starter, suffered a left knee injury eight minutes into the game and did not return. Riley fell down holding his knee near the opposition bench. He laid on the floor as the crowd fell quiet, but staggered out to the locker room, surrounded by supporters singing his name. Last season, the redshirt senior averaged ten points per game.

To start the game, the Bruins hit three consecutive 3-pointers, the first of which was made by Bernard. He also had a 3-pointer to start the second half and ended with four of UCLA’s 13 3-pointers.
With a seven-point lead, the Bruins went on a 29-8 run to take a 47-19 halftime lead. Campbell scored seven straight points, and Jaquez nailed a 3-pointer seconds before the buzzer to throw the Bruins into a frenzy.
In the first half, UCLA restricted the Roadrunners to 8-of-31 shooting and forced 10 of Bakersfield’s 15 turnovers.

The Bruins’ advantage was now 60-26 after Bernard’s three-point play.

In the second half, the Roadrunners, led by McCall, put together several good possessions and improved their shooting. Williams made a 3-pointer and fed Brian Washington for a slam, and McCall scored four straight points to put them up 68-39.
Juzang and Jaquez combined for six consecutive points for UCLA to take a 75-39 advantage. Coach Mick Cronin was able to rest his starters for the last six minutes of the contest.
Cal State Bakersfield: The Roadrunners are in their second season in the Big West and have a squad that has played in 882 games. However, since some of the players are new to one other, developing chemistry as well as a rotation are top considerations.
UCLA was 11-1 at home last season, despite the fact that there were no supporters due to the coronavirus outbreak. Their boisterous student section was packed and definitely thrilled to be back on Tuesday, becoming raucous in anticipation of the big game against Villanova on Friday.
On Saturday, Cal State Bakersfield will host Life Pacific.
UCLA: The Bruins host No. 4 Villanova in their first significant battle of the season on Friday.
